I'm looking for another song. I knew this one in Hochdeutsch but have
forgotten most of it. It would come in handy since I now have a little
granddaughter. It involves holding the hands up and rotating them while
singing:
Wie ien Faenchen auf dem Turme
Dreht es sich in Wind und Sturme
I forgot how it goes on from there.
Any other childrens songs in Platt or Hochdeutsch would be welcome.

Tom, this list does not concern itself with German ("High" German). German
has relevance only peripherally, for instance where there is a direct link
or comparison with Lowlands Saxon ("Platt") or limitation to Northern
Germany and its LS-based culture. It would also be all right to show a
German version of a song with reference to its LS version. There should be
no focus on non-North-German-specific or -relevant topics.

Reinhard/Ron

I assume you tried a Google search on these words, but didn't find
anything. You were a tad off, since the song actually starts with
"Klap eens in je handjes" (of course, 'eens' is colloquially
pronounced /@s/, which makes _klapjes_ not easy to distinguish from
_klap 's_). Google this and you'll find more.

Hi Randy,
my children are teenagers now and beyond that kind of ditties; it's
basically a game for the under-three crowd:
"Klap eens in je handjes, blij blij blij,
op je boze bolletje allebij.
Je Handjes in je zij...
zo varen de scheepjes vorbij,
zo varen de scheepjes vorbij."
With the first line, the child claps its hands; with the second line, it
puts them on top of its head (which looks really cute with a baby who can't
quite reach up there but is trying hard); then, with arms akimbo, it sways
to and fro.

Groetjes, Selma
