Ik haw dit wurd noch eefkes neisocht yn it niis ferskynde boek fan
Debrabandere:
West-Vlaams etymologisch woordenboek.
Hy har wer in oare hipoteze oer dit wurd _lavei_, _lawei_. Neffens him
betsjut it "staking". Mnl: laveye "het slenteren", Ndd: (Nederdútsk) lawai
"verlof, vrije tijd, lawaai, gekrakeel", AldFrysk lawei "rusttijd", NijFrysk
lawei: koer dy't omheechlutsen wurdt om oan te jaan dat it skoft is.
Der wurdt in ferbân lein mei Frânsk levée "het staken, het opheffen"
Hy seit ek "lawaai en lawei lijken dus wel hetzelfde woord te zijn. De
betekenis 'lawaai'
kan samenhangen met het lawaaierige van een rusttijd,schafttijd, staking."
Dit liket my persoanlik in heel arige ferklearring ta.
