That's a good and original theme. I don't know if it's any interest, but I
ve a copy of "De Nibelungen: Fiedele Weltgeschicht op Platt" (Murd un
Dootslag be di Nibelungen; Gudrun - oder: von de Waschbuett op'n
Koenigsthron).

By Walter. A. Kreye (Leer: Verlag Schuster, 1970. ISBN: 3-7963-0019-7).
This can be obtained 2nd-hand, if it still isn't in print.

I should have mentioned too that Klaus Groth's poem "De Slacht bi
Hemmingstedt" is also almost epic in its proportions (and is certainly on a
higher plane than most of Groth's poems).

I'm hoping Ron will add it to his excellent Klaus Groth site when he gets
the time. Hint, hint, Ron! ;-)

Ah, yes!  One of these days ...  This is as least the second _Wink mit 'nem
Zaunpfahl_.  It's been on my extensive to-do list for a while.  I guess I'll
have to break down and get to it sometime soon, if for no other reason than
to get my _Macker_ Edward off my back, if I can get Mathieu (the Lowlands
worker bee) off my back for a while ... ;)

Below is the original version of the poem (about a historic battle against
the Danes in Hulsteen/Holstein).  I will let you know when it is translated
and posted.

Klaus Groth (1819-1899)

»Nu wahr di Bur, de Garr de kumt«, vun Möldorp jagt se her,
De Helm un Panzers schint as Gold, as Sülwer schint de Per.
Kong Hans un all wat Adel kumt mit groten Larm un Schall,
De Wulf de lurt mit wücke Burn bi Braken achtern Wall.

Vun Möldorp trock dat swart hendal, wul dörtig dusent Mann:
Vun Wörden il en lütten Tropp, en Mäden gung væran.

»So hölp uns Herr, du hest dat Rik in Himmel un op Eer!«
Wulf Isebrand störtt ut de Schanz, twee Hunnert achterher.

Un op de Panzers fulln de Släg', un Rüters in den Sand,

Keen Nam so grot int Holstenland un nich in Dännemark,
Dar ligt se nu ahn Krüz un Steen, dar ligt se ahn en Sark.

De Garr de full mit Junker Slenz, so grot un stolt he weer,
De lange Reimer Wimersted de keem un steek em dær.

Mit nauer Noth, in Angst un Sorg keem König Hans dervan;
In Möldorp leet he Beer un Win un Bradens inne Pann.
