Some more info on the "Koog" business:

The origin is from old Germanic *kauga.
I'll quote de Vries:
"znw. naast _kaag_ [elders, onder "kaag": Hollands-Friese vorm genoemd],
oorspr. 'ingedijkt buitendijks land' maar eigenlijk 'opgeslibd land buiten
de dijk'
nnd. ko:g, noordfri ku:ch, ofri. ka:ch < germ. *kauga. -- Het is een woord
dat alleen
tot de nl. en nd. Noordzeekust beperkt is, bezwaarlijk een verklaring uit
het idg. te vinden; maar het zou kunnen behoren tot de groep van _kogel_ en
_kogge_ [HB yes the ship we were talking about..], vooral omdat men uit mag
gaan van het omhoog welvende van het aangeslibde land."

The modern West-Frisian form is "keech" (also from Old Frisian ka:ch,
showing also
that Dutch forms (in the province North-Holland eg. ) with aa-vowel are
Frisian relics.)
(among the quotations in the GWFT we find one "kægen"-spelling, and we also
have the form "eech" (dialectical for _each_, eye, from _a:ge_ in Old
Frisian) occurring widely.
