To Reinhard/Ron:

We heard this song done by, I believe, Ougenweyde or another similar group a
few years ago at a Volksfest in Stade. We lived at that time in Jork, and
often heard old Platt songs at special celebrations such as 50th wedding
anniversaries at one fairytale Reetdachkate or other in the Altes Land. The
music matches the cherry blossoms and architecture perfectly.
In other respects, we agree that Hafer, like most philosophies, tastes
better cum grano salis.

Dank schast hebben vör Dyn anter, beste Arthur.  Ja, dat Olde Land, dat is
wiss un waar 'n moy stük eyrd' un höldt noch so 'n lüt beten vast an olde
spraak un bruuk, un dat so dicht by dey grootstad Hamborg.  Dat kanst ook
vun Staad' seggen, un vun Veyrlanden.  Man ook schöyn tou weten, dat 'n
Amerikaner maal d'n nourden vun Düytschland kennen un leyv-hebben leyrd het.

Thanks a lot for your response, Arthur.  Yes, the Old Land (Altes Land) is
certainly a lovely piece of soil, and it hangs on to some of the old
language and culture -- and that so close to the metropolis Hamburg.  This
can be said of Stade as well, and of Vierlanden.  It is nice to know, too,
that an American got to know and to appreciate the north of Germany for a
change.
