Hello Lowlanders,
me and my friends in the Ruhr District (North-West Germany) often used
- and even use today although we're well over twenty ;-) - the special
expression "stummbumm" if we have to do some annoying task. Once a person
starts the "game" by shouting "stummbumm", all others will shout it too
as quickly as possible. The unfortunate last one has to do the task.
An example would be:
A: "Wir müssn noch den Abfall rausbring... Ich mach's nich. Stummbumm!"
(We still have to take the garbage out... I won't do it)
B: "Stummbumm!"
C: "Stummbumm!"
D: "Ja, ich bring ihn raus..." (Ok, I'll take it out...)
This exclamation is not so much about playing games but about doing
annoying tasks.
It is considered kind of a "holy" game. If you are the last one and you
don't do the job, people might get upset.
Do other people know such traditions?
Guedgaon!
Jan Strunk
