in een nedderlannschen Daagblatt heff ik wat funnen:

"Fries leent bijna elk nieuw woord

LEEUWARDEN - Vrijwel ieder nieuw woord dat in de
Friese taal opduikt, is ontleend aan het Nederlands
of het Engels. Volgens een onderzoek van Hindrik
Sijens, lexicograaf aan de Fryske Akademy, zijn er
onder de Friese neologismen 65 procent ontleningen
en 29 procent leenvertalingen, samen 94 procent. In
de periode 2000-2002 trof hij 364 nieuwe Friese
woorden aan.

Dat het Fries veel woorden overneemt is deels te
verklaren uit de dominante positie van het Nederlands.
Andere minderheidstalen nemen volgens Sijens veel
minder snel een woord over. Zo wordt op de
Faeroer-eilanden meer werk gemaakt van het bedenken
en invoeren van nieuwe termen in het Faeroers."

Since this may be of wider interest on the List, and this is relatively
brief, permit me to translate the Dutch text into English.  Please bear in
mind, folks, that (as usual) by "Frisian" they mean Westerlauwer ("West")
Frisian, do not include the variety used in Germany.

Please consider journalist simplification.  Also, please remember that it
was not I who wrote it, just translated it.

"Frisian Borrowed Nearly Every New Word

LEEUWARDEN - Virtually every new word that appears in the Frisian language
has been borrowed from Dutch or English.  According to a study by Hindrik
Sijens, lexicographer at the Frisian Academy, 65 percent of Frisian
neologisms are loans and 29 percent are loan translations, accounting for a
total of 94 percent.  He encountered 364 new Frisian words in the period of
2000-2002.

The fact that Frisian borrows many words can be explained in the light of
the fact that Dutch occupies a dominant position.  According to Sijens,
other minority languages are less quick to adopt a word.  For example,
Faeroe Islanders go to more trouble in considering importation of new terms
into Faeroese."
