That reminds me of the day I had my first daughter; I was then married to a
Dutchman. We were living in Bavaria at the time. Well, the birth was well in
progress and thea took me to the delivery room. The sign over the door said
"Entbindung" (delivery). He became very agitated and demanded to know why
they were taking me in there. "Well, to have the baby, of course", answered
the puzzled nurse. He: "But what is WRONG with it?"

He thought that "Entbindung" meant the same as the Dutch "ontbinding" - the
decomposition of a dead body, that is.
Actually, the baby really almost didn't make it - but just almost, thank
goodness.

verwesen 'decompose'  |  verwezen 'infatuated', 'besotten'
verwest 'decomposed'  |  verweezd 'orphaned'
