Okay, [snip] here, as I would like to elaborate on what Sandy says here.

Between 1993 and 1998 I was a guide (escort) for deaf-and-blind people in
The Netherlands. Now, as some of you may know, there's loads of different
categories in deaf-and-blind-ness, for example:
- born deaf / hard of hearing, become blind / visually impaired - raised
orally
- id. but raised using sign language
- born hearing and seeing, become deaf-and-blind
- born blind and becoming deaf / hard of hearing

As guides could be either deaf or hearing, the permutations of
interpretation going on could be numerous.

For example: lectures on raising deaf-and-blind awareness held in Ede:
- Dutch reader
- NGT (Nederlandse Gebarentaal) interpreter
- no or little interpretation required for those able to use T-loop
- four-handed signing by guide for those raised on signlanguage who couldn't
see the interpreter
- Dutch one-hand spelling on the hand for those who were not raised on
signlanguage
- Dutch printed letters in the hand of those who couldn't read one-hand
alphabet
- Tellatouch braille reader for those who preferred this medium

Oh, boy, oh, couldn't this get all complicated. And eye-breaks as well,
during which I kept on spelling for my delegate, to catch up. At some point
the organisers said: "As you (I and more who spelled like me) are not taking
a break, we may just as well continue and not take a break". Jikes!

More of this for those who are interested? Gotta go now.
