Subject: Etymology

I've been away for a week and don't know who started the
thread about the Dutch word 'mooi' = beautiful.  I've al-
ways understood this is one of the very few Dutch words
without known cognate in other languages (another one is
tarwe - wheat).  I remember reading somewhere 'mooi' might
be connected with Russian/Slavonic myt' - to wash, but how
this got to Dutch was never explained.
