Hallo iedereen,

Wel, deze 'honeymoon' doet mij denken aan het
saksische/germaanse 'wittebroodsweken' = honeymoon.

In nederland heeft de mening post gevat dat
'wittebroodsweken' een woord is dat afkomstig is en
ontstaan is op het Muiderslot. Daar zou men na het
huwelijk van witte borden eten, en zo kwam men tot
'wittebroodsweken'. Zo schijnt het elke dag opnieuw
verteld te worden door de gidsen/rondleiders op het
Muiderslot.

Wat nader bekeken is 'wittebroodsweken' [in de eigen
vormen] terug te vinden in heel wat germaanse
varianten; zowel in het zuiden in Beieren als in het
noorden van Noorwegen. Dan zal het dus wel wat ouder
zijn dan de literaire kring van het Muiderslot.

En het is dan ook duidelijk dat 'wittebroodsweken' de
'tarwebroodsweken' zijn [van de vorm 'weit' en zo].

Is het zo dat in de verscheidene saksische /
nederfrankische streken 'wittebroodsweken' [in de
eigen varianten] nog steeds gebruikt wordt??

Dat is 'n heyl vermaaklich thema.

In 't Nedder-Sassische ("Nedderduytsche", "Plat-Duytsche") vun Duytschland
weet ik vun twey woyrd' voer de sülvige Saak:

* honnig-maand (<Honnigmaand> -- Ingelsch leenwourd?)

* stuten-weken (<Stutenweken> -- meyrstdeyls in un üm Hamborg.

In 't ("Hoog"-) Duytsche segt 'n _Flitterwochen_, vun _Flitter_
('lovertje', 'schitterij', 'tinteling') un _Wochen_ 'weken'.

Theo asked for words for "honeymoon" in various Lowlands language varieties.

In Low Saxon (Low German) of Germany I can think of two equivalents:

* honnig-maand (<Honnigmaand> -- "honeymoon" < English?)

* stuten-weken (<Stutenweken> -- "_stuten_ weeks," mostly in and around
Hamburg)

_Stuut_ (< _stute_, -> pl. _stuten_) denotes types of bread made from
wheat only, white bread, often sweetened, perhaps with raisins added, as
opposed to everyday coarse bread.  _Stuten..._ is sometimes used to denote
"special occasion" or "holiday."

* stuten-weken_ tallies nicely with _wittebroodsweken_ ("white bread
weeks") that Theo mentions in connection with the Netherlands.

German has _Flitterwochen_ for the same, from _Flitter_ ('glitter',
'gewgaw') and _Wochen_ 'weeks'.
