Ik heb altijd begrepen dat het gebruik van 'zich' een Duitse invloed
is, waarin de Duitse spelling werd overgenomen, en dat oorspronkelijk
de derde persoon reflexief op de Engelse manier werd weergegeven.

Bedankt, Gustaaf.

Maar in het Oudnederfrankis werd al het reflexieve _sig_ gebruikt. Misschien 
verdween het en _zich_ werd dan van het "Duits" genomen.

Gustaaf has been told that _zich_ goes back to a German loan, that prior to 
that the varieties in question expressed the reflexive in the English 
manner.

Above, I say that reflexive _sig_ existed already in Old Low Franconian, and 
I wonder if it became defunct and _zich_ came to be introduced from 
"German."
