Re Leslie Decker: ' Well, I'm completely used to these non-US spellings, but
to many of us the "-our" makes words like color and flavor look like they
should rhyme with "flour." '
I don't know, if ye're British, but to my Dutch opinion there are other
inconsequences in the English. Take different spelling of "cough",
"although" and "Slough" as an example!

Nah......Leslie may indeed be worldly and educated, but little ol' me also
chafes at leaving that "e" out. I suspect our numbers are legion, LOL.

Ditto. I write it very, very reluctantly like that and hate it quite a
bit.
There is a part of Seattle whose name is spelled <Wedgwood> ... Grrrrghgh!
I used to think this <dg> peeve of mine was rare, that I have it only
because I did not grow up in the US and started of with non-American
spelling, because no one I mentioned this to understood what the "big
deal"
was. It's good for me to "hear" you say this, Leslie. Or is it "only"
because you're exceptionally educated and have lived abroad, have become
one
of "us"?
Regards,
Reinhard/Ron

Oh, Jan, dear innocent, novice Jan! You have no idea what sort of witches
dances are likely to result from any challenges to the orthographic status
quo here and elsewhere, especially when it's the English one. We've been
there many a time.
And our Marsha (also above):

Oh, come on now, Marsha! Don't hide your little ol' light under a bushel!
The fact that you've been gracing us with your presence, attention and
inquisitiveness goes to show that you are "different," more observant,
attentive and openminded than most people, are willing to think about things
and to consider alternatives.
Regards,
Reinhard/Ron
