Subject: A good English-Dutch-English dictionary? And Reinhard, many thanks.
Soon I will be launched into learning how to read and write Dutch, so I will
need a good English-Dutch, Dutch-English dictionary. Any ideas anyone?
Cassell's Dutch Dictionary was an excellent reference (beautifully bound and
printed) I saw years ago, but I don't think it's still in print. I'm open to
suggestions (of the dictionary variety, that is).
As for you Reinhard, I'm flattered that my short message on Low-Saxon
orthography has received such attention and that I should be quoted in full
on this site. I'm still mulling over your response and will write a more
detailed reply later. However, I will say that after reading your remarks,
the matter of achieving internationally acceptable and uniform standards and
norms for Low-Saxon orthography so as to establish the written language more
widely (for present and future generations) is more complicated than I had
thought. As you say, orthographical or spelling reforms are difficult to
make work at the best of times: difficult but not impossible, one sincerely
hopes in this instance.
Many thanks for your comments,
Paul Sweet
