Dear Lowlanders,

Unfortunately too late to recommend as Christmas stocking-stuffers – though
not too late for our Eastern Orthodox Lowlanders whose turn it will be in
about two weeks – I recommend the following audio CD:

Reuben Epp
*Dit un Jant opp Plautdietsch
*(This and That in Plautdietsch)
Recorded under the direction of Peter Wiens
Self-published 2006
with booklet
Canada: $18 (+ $2 shipping)
Europe: €10

The CD contains stories and poems written/translated and read in
Plautdietsch (Mennonite Low Saxon) by our own Reuben Epp. It is based (at
least in part) on Reuben's book with the same title (Readers Press, 1997,
ISBN 0963849425, 978-0963849427). Some of the stories are Reuben's
translations from English or other Low Saxon (Low German) dialects.

1. Plautdietsch (J.H. Janzen)
2. Un Best et uk Nich (Wilhelmine Siefkes)
3. Oole Schuld (Frieda Jung)
4. De scheenste Dag (Fritz Reuter)
5. De Bua aun siene Fruu (J.A. Lehmann)
6. Mien Plautz ver'e Däa (Klaus Groth)
7. Wuarom? (Reuben Epp)
8. Edison un daut Elektrische Licht (Reuben Epp)
9. Biem Easchte Mol Koafoahre (Reuben Epp)
10. Biem Kjleedkjeepe (von. Reuben Epp)
11. De Laump em Fensta (Reuben Epp)
12. Bua, Waut Sul Dan? (Elly Wübbeler)
13. De Erschaufungsjeschicht (Johannes Gosselk)
14. De Owend ver Wiehnachte (C. C. Moore)
15. Hoadasche Stoawt - Aul Wada! (Reuben Epp)
16. Woone Schmauntkaun? (Reuben Epp)
17. Plautdietsche Ente (Reuben Epp)

The recordings were made in 2000 during Reuben's visit to Germany,
specifically during a reading organized by the Association Plautdietsch
Freunde (*Plautdietsch Friend*) at Detmold. All recordings are of high
quality, and Reuben reads the stories very clearly and at a slow but natural
speed, which makes them fairly easily understandable even for speakers of
other dialects and closely related languages.

This audio CD is highly recommendable to anyone interested in Mennonite
language and culture and in Low Saxon (Low German) language and culture
generally, be it for academic purposes or for sheer enjoyment of good,
traditional-style story telling.

It may be ordered here:
