I've never seen that movie in English, but I had always assumed that the
"friend" in the grave went by the name of John Barleycorn!

It could be related to High German "Dübel", so Dupti(e) could be a LG/LS
cognate diminutive.

In Alemannic we use the word "Dubel/Dübel" in a similar sense as your
"Dupti(e)". It's often used instead of "Typ" and sometimes mixed up into
something like "Tüpl/Typl" etc., which reminds me of German "Tölpel".
