Hi all,
Ron, 'klok' in Afrikaans is indeed 'bell' as in church bell (kerkklok),
bicycle bell (fietsklokkie), door bell (deurklokkie),
school bell (skoolklok). Example: Die kerkklokke beier al van 7 uur af.
>>Afrikaans: *klok* | *uur* | *... uur*
The form 'uurklok' is archaic. More typical is 'twee/drie/vyf uur' as you
indicated.
Incidentally 'bel' also means 'to telephone' (Ek het jou gister gebel maar
die foon het net gelui).
I guess the word 'oorbel' (earlobe) is also known in Dutch.
