Just having done a look into Yahoo (I don't often use Google because of its
monopoly position) I didn't find a single strike for 'Ellh*oe*rn', but more
than 54,000 for 'Ellh*o*rn'.

No- for my opinion it is another striking proof for (all these criminal ;-))
non-native officials ruling our Low Saxon language (in this special case it
must have happened approximately during the 70ies of the 20th c.).
So you might understand better all my objections against Low Saxon location
names 're-invented' and 'new-prescribed' in our times by definitely
non-native, self-proclaimed experts...

And it could have been so easy for that godfathers: you can find streets
named 'Ellhorn-...' (meaning E: 'elder'[-bush]) in lots of villages around
here- as far as I know *never* mixed up with 'Hoern' ('edge').


*Question:* why don't the people living in this street object against this
name? *Answer:* they don't know better, and they are not at all interested
in Low Saxon. A bitter truth!
And so the name will not be changed in the straightforwarded future.

A very hard verdict. At least if you are not sure about it.
Google does not find it under "Ellhörn", but by indirect searching I have
found this:

It's our list. And somebody named Reinhard/Ron there says:

In't Wöörbook vun Wolfgang Lindow stait "Allhorn" nich, man bloots
"Ellhorn", "Ellhoorn" un "Ellhörn."

So, it seems to exist. I of course don't know, whether this variant is known
in Groden too, but you don't know exactly too, or do you?
I at least don't want to judge about the name of the street without further
research.

I just wrote that you can't find 'Ellhörn' in Google directly. That's
not correct.

Well, in the past I often had problems using Google, cause of it's
"fuzzy" search. For example, if you look for 'Plattdüütsch' Google will
match 'Plattdeutsch' too. So, if you look for 'Ellhörn', it will find
'Ellhorn' too. I helped me in the past with typing 'Ellhörn -Ellhorn',
so excluding the term Ellhorn from the search. This of course excludes
Ron's post on the mailing list, cause Ellhorn and Ellhörn both are
present in it.

But as I just found out, typing '"Ellhörn"' (with the quotation marks
around it) changes the behaviour and only 'Ellhörn' will be found (and
Ron's post then is the only result in Google).

Perhaps you all did you, but I did not ;-) Very useful and I wanted to
share.
