In Scotland young children played a game in which one kid would pick a
butter cup, say "Lit me see whither Ye like buh/ur" as he held it below the
other's chin.
The yellow reflection confirmed they did.
Wonder if they do this nowadays ? We had simple pleasures in the 1940's.

You'll be pleased to know Tom that the tradition is alive and well and
continues in our family at least! I shall be introducing my grand daughter
to it this May ( aged 13 months!) as soon as our fields are in bloom with
them.
