Dear Pat,
you asked for the meaning of the wall-anchors at the Tor-Haus in
Otte_*r*_ndorf,
my regional 'capital'.
It is not *GHZSEUW*, and no hidden *JESUS* over there as you wrote resp.
speculated, but the first letter is a combination of 'A' and 'G' and denotes
the initials of *A*u*G*ust, Earl of Sachsen-Lauenburg, last or
pre-last successor of his family to rule the the Hadeln-region. In AD 1641
he had been the one to sponsor the whole (meanwhile vanished) castle which
the Tor-Haus was a part of.
The following letters denote his entire title:
*H* = *H*erzog
*Z* = *Z*u
*S* = *S*achsen
*E* = *E*ngern
*U* = *U*nd
*W* = *W*estfalen
Hope this helps.
Allerbest!
Jonny Meibohm
