"I cannot recall BBC having any such series but in the 1970's they had a
detective series set in Amsterdam (can't recall the name but it had a catchy
tune)."
It was called "Van der Valk" .. the name of the detective but it was an
English production set in Holland. he was played by Barry Foster.
The only German programmes with subtitles I can recall were Das Boot
(already mentioned) and also Heimat.
I too remember the beautiful shadow plays on children's TV that came from
Czechoslovakia, I think - but then programmes like this are easily dubbed.
I am sure most British children were unaware that Magic Roundabout was not
an original UK production! ( who reads credits?)
Did any one mention the number of Australian soaps and films we get?
