Thanks Ron.
What is particularly interesting is that languages manage to create complex
rule systems, that nobody actually understands, yet most native speakers use
correctly!  Despite not knowing why, I know when I should use "drunk" rather
than "drunken" and vice-versa.

I agree, Paul, and I think that this "subconscious" mastery of the rules is
one of the most fascinating aspects of language.
