seen as a rapacious threat!

Well, Paul, more educated Swedes today must be aware that they used to be
perceived as a threat in places like Norway, Denmark, Northeastern Germany,
the Baltic Countries and Finland. Bear in mind that there used to be a good
deal of turf fighting within Scandinavia, and both Denmark and Sweden used
to be colonizing powers until not terribly long ago.

And certain  communities of speakers of what they claim are separate
Scandinavian languages still have gripes about Swedish language domination
and non-recognition of their languages ~ dialect groups (Elfdalian, Gutnish,
Jamtlandic, Scanian).
