Ron, I seem not to have any problem reading these characters. I have never
had any problem with the Lowland Mails. Of course it might be possible that
the “computer” ( word that I use but it could also have the meaning of
gremlins) starts to act up when it finds these “odd” characters between

Ron,

Using the Evolution email client that comes as standard with Ubuntu
Linux & Gnu, no problems at all with anything.

On my phone it's a different matter altogether, but I'm not bothered
about that  :)

Only difference with last time seems to be that your message was not the
only one in this post. Trouble always seems to happen when a post contains
more than one message. The four good posts that I received earlier on were
all single-message posts. Could it be that the software that you're using to
edit messages and compose them into one post could be the culprit? When
dealing with more than one message (originating from different platforms),
it seems to get mixed up.

Maybe we can test it like this. I will write 6 accented vowels first:

ü é ä ö à ê

You should then post this as a single-message post. I will check if I can
still read my own accented vowels (probably will).

Next you take this same test message and add a message of yourself (also
containing accented vowels). Again post it, and we'll see which diacritics
will survive.

What I said about the double line-break was nonsense. It's a multipart
message, the line-break needs to be there. The messages are sent out as
multipart alternative. That means they are sent out in two copies: one is
plain text and the other one is in HTML format. The plain text one is
encoded in ISO-8859-1 while the HTML one is encoded in UTF-8. Perhaps this
confuses some clients? Is there an option to send both in UTF-8?

Thank you, everyone, also those of you that wrote to me privately.

There's still some kind of gremlin somewhere. I've figured out that when I
receive a copy of an issue myself and need to change the encoding to
Unicode, that's when Luc *et al.* have problems. So something triggers this
under certain circumstances.

I have appraised the good folks at LINGUIST of this and requested that they
help me remove the footer. I have noticed that some of you receive =3D
instead of = in the footer whenever the gremlin does his dirty work. I think
we need to go back and restart with as few bells and whistles as possible.
Should we add something to it later and this nonsense starts again, then we
might actually what did it.

My theory is that there's some glitch in the encoding that is translated as
garbage on Macs.

Luc, whatever little it may be worth, I can assure you that I get all
"special" character from you just fine.
