Subject: Corpus of Modern Scottish Writing (CMSW) Launch

St Andrew's Day marks the public launch of the University of Glasgow's
latest Digital Humanities project, the Corpus of Modern Scottish Writing.
For the first time the resource makes freely available a wide range of
documents in Scots and Scottish English from 1700-1945, ranging from a rare
first edition of Robert Burns' poems to letters from the explorer David
Livingstone to murder trial transcripts dating back to the 1750s.

The free online resource contains texts, digital images and searchable
transcriptions, and can be found at:

http://www.scottishcorpus.ac.uk/cmsw/

The Corpus also features James Hogg's first ever book - a treatise on
diseases of sheep; personal accounts of the 1715 uprising; letters to
Scotland from the French-Indian war and from emigrants to Australia in the
19th century. City Council minutes are also present along with a work on
spiritualism by Arthur Conan Doyle, novels and student disciplinary trials
of the 18th century and a selection of personal letters and diaries that
give an invaluable insight into Scottish life in days gone by.

The CMSW project has been funded by the Arts and Humanities Research
Council (AHRC), and run by the University's Department of English Language,
now part of the School of Critical Studies.
