Hallo,
Just some explanation about 'smuken' in Western Flemish:

smuik / smuuk ( smuyck) = dichte mist / smoor
E: (thick) fog
smuiken / smuken (smuikte, gesmuikt) ook smokelen = sterk smoren,
stofregenen
E: drizzling rain
smoken (smokte, gesmokt) = domen, dampen, roken
E: to steam, smoke, fume
smokelen = smoken, roken
E: to steam, fume

Groetjes,
Luc Vanbrabant

Excellent Jacqueline. Wasn't aware of that contamination. Makes my day :-)

  Dennis contributed the word smeukken to the growing palette of words with
which we ‘word paint’ Lowlands weather. That is getting close to E smog,
which I always thought was a contamination between smoke and fog. How come>
