I don't suppose they published it in Geordie either. That strikes me as a
really silly complaint; if they are so desperate to see a Netherlands
version, get the rights, translate it and publish it. But how hard could it
be to understand anyway? I'm far from fluent in Dutch but I'm sure I could
manage cook book.

I quite agree with what Paul says above.

Books, including cookbooks, are published and widely distributed in
different types of English all the time. If they don't get translated, they
might include parenthesized alternative terms (e,g., courgette (zucchini),
capsicum (bell pepper)) or have glossaries. Even if not, most people don't
have a problem with them anyway. (Weights and measures are a different
matter but tend to be represented in a similar fashion.)

Jeroen Meus is a popular cook on Belgian TV, teaching people how to prepare
easy-to-make popular recipees. He speaks Belgian Dutch and he wrote a book
with recipees with a Belgian color. This book (unfortunately?) came also in
distribution in the Netherlands. In the Dutch newspaper “De Volkskrant” Onno
Klein complains that it was not published in a “Netherlands Dutch” version
for the Netherlands market.
I couldn’t find the original article by Klein on the web. Annexed are some
reactions from the websites of Belgian newspapers.

Een voetnoot over kookboeken.
Ik herinner me de jaren dat nederlandse uitgeverijen het ene na het andere
amerikaanse kookboek in het nederlands lieten vertalen.

Ik kan niet koken.
Ik weet wel dat er geen barst klopte van die vertalingen.
Zo klopte er bijv. nooit iets van de vertaling van het usa 'paprika'. Soms
moest dit worden vertaald, soms niet. En als er stond 'sweet paprika', dan
wist men er al helemaal geen raad mee.

Zoals gezegd: ik kan niet koken; en met zulke kookboeken leer ik het ook
nooit.
