I would imagine this would be through the Visigoths, who ruled the Iberian
peninsula in the centuries between the Romans and the Arabs. Gregory of
Tours had a lot of problems with them, because they believed in the Arian
Heresy. His History of the Franks is full of theological discussions in
which he teaches them the error of their ways and stories about nasty ways
in which God punished such heretics in this world, even before they got to
hell.
