Hier mal ein Kostprauw:

*auf die Palme bringen - **to drive up the wall
*Sein moralinsaueres Benehmen bringt mich auf die Palme. (moralinsaueres ?)
*His holier-than-thou behaviour drives me up the wall.*

*unter dem Pantoffel stehen - **to be henpecked*
Lange Jahre stand er unter dem Pantoffel.
*He was henpecked for many years.

**der Pantoffelheld - **henpecked husband*
Man nannte ihn(en) einen Pantoffelhelden, aber er war glücklich.
*They called him henpecked, but he was happy.

**für einen Pappenstiel - **for a song*
Sie hat den Wagen für einen Pappenstiel gekauft.
*She bought the car for a song.*

*im Eifer des Gefechts - **in the heat of the fray*
Im Eifer des Gefechts wurden Worte gesprochen, die besser unterblieben
wären.
*In the heat of the fray words were spoken which would have been better left
unsaid.

**der Hahn im Korb sein - **to be cock of the walk*
Auf der Fete war der neue Millionär der Hahn im Korb.
*At the party the new millionaire was cock of the walk.*

*Hut ab! **Hats off!*
Hut ab vor ihrer Leistung!
*Hats off to her accomplishment.

**ein Haar in der Suppe finden -** to find fault; to quibble
*Erstaunlich, dass er diesmal kein Haar in der Suppe fand.
*Amazing, he found nothing to quibble about this time.*
*
**es gut sein lassen - **to leave it at that
*Damit lassen wir's gut sein.
*Let's leave it at that.*

Mi dücht, de Plattdüütschen känen ok noch wat anbeiden...
