Calvin College was named after John Calvin or Jehan Cauvin, a French
Protestant reformer.  Calvin College is a 4-year Liberal Arts college owned
by the Christian Reformed Church that, in turn, had its origins in
the*Gereformeerde
Kerken* in the Netherlands.  There was a mass emigration from the
Netherlands in the 1840s to the United States by Dutch Protestants to
escape intolerance.   Important names are A C van Raalte (whose adherents
settled in Michigan) and H Scholte (whose adherents settled in Iowa).



As to the book mentioned in the Wikipedia article, note that this book was
written in 1934!
