In the Florentine Codex, Book line 91, where there is a recounting of the
exchange of gifts that occurred at the first meeting of the Aztecs and the
Spanish, we find:

"quinhualcuepcayotilique," which D. and A. translated "[the Spaniards]
gave them gifts in return".

|quin-hual-cuepcayotl-causative-benefactive-plural|.

Can someone explain what is going on here? Why the benefactive?
Couldn't one have simply said *quinhualcuepcayotique?
