Cognitive linguistics has long entertained the idea of force dynamic concepts being fundamental semantic categories (Talmy, 1976, 1981, 1985, etc.), but this idea has not been taken up by formal semantics. In this talk, I will revisit the arguments for representing forces in the grammar, and discuss how to represent forces formally to account for the behavior of certain aspects and Aktionsarten. The treatment of forces as vectors draws from work in experimental psychology by Wolff (2004).
