Announcement: Linguistics in the Pub October 2012

Topic: Researching child language in the field

Late last year, we held our first LIP about documenting child language (see
blog
http://www.paradisec.org.au/blog/2011/11/child-language-documentation-a-lip-discussion/).
We discussed why it might be useful to record child language as part of a
broader language documentation project. We also discussed what you need to
think about before you start documenting child language.

Since then a number of local linguists have begun to document child
language in the field. In October they will report on their experiences.
More seasoned child language researchers will be on hand to join in the
discussion too. Birgit Hellwig and Lauren Gawne will lead the session.

Date: Tuesday 16th October
Time: 6:00 - 8:00 pm
Venue: Function room, Naughton’s Parkville Hotel
43 Royal Parade, Parkville (opposite Melbourne Uni but on the West side)

LIP is an occasional gathering of language activists and linguists in
Melbourne. All are welcome. Those in other parts of Australia and the
world who can't make it to the Melbourne LIPs are encouraged to
organise a local gathering to discuss this topic and support language
activities in your area.
