ANNOUNCEMENT: LINGUISTICS IN THE PUB ONLINE

Thursday 8th October 5pm AEST (UTC +11)

*Doing linguistic research with archival materials*

Travel is more difficult now so many linguists are looking for alternatives
to fieldwork. Using archival materials and corpora is another way to work
with primary language data. In this session we look at what kinds of
linguistic research are possible using these sources. We will also discuss
ways of collaborating with the communities whose voices and languages have
been recorded including repatriation of materials.

Moderator: Ruth Singer (University of Melbourne)

Panelists:

Stephen Morey (La Trobe University)

Stefan Schnell (Bamberg University)

Clara Stockigt (University of Adelaide)

Corey Theatre (La Trobe University)

Nicholas Thieberger (University of Melbourne)

We will start with a panel discussion (45-60 minutes) and then we will
discuss the issues raised in small groups for about 30 minutes. The panel
discussion will be streamed live to YouTube and available to view later.
