VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Peace Corps, Vacancy Number PC0-013W, Language & Cross Cultural
Specialist

Opening Date:  1/31/2000, Closing Date:  2/28/2000
Location:  The Center for Field Assistance & Applied, Research
Washington, DC

Salary Range:  FP4 $45,029-$66,127;  FP3 $55,572-$81,609

Duties:  The specialist is responsible for providing support to Peace
Corps language and cross cultural training programs worldwide. Specific
duties include: 1) monitoring language training programs; 2)
collaborating with the Cross Cultural Specialist on program support; 3)
planning and implementing workshops for field staff; 4) identifying and
developing resources to enhance training; 5) promoting professional
development of worldwide training staff; 6) recommending improvements to
language and cross cultural programs; and 7) evaluating field requests
for support. NOTE: Position may require up to 25% travel.

Career Ladder:  FP-3 is the full performance level for this position. If
selected from this vacancy announcement, the employee may be considered
for promotion without further competition.

Mandatory Qualifications:  In order to be selected for this position,
applicants must be U.S. citizens, must not have been employed in
intelligence-related activities, and must submit applications which
clearly document how they meet each of the following mandatory
requirements: Applicants must have: 1) three years of experience
managing and providing technical support to language programs for adult
learners in a multi-cultural setting; 2) three years of demonstrated
facilitation and training delivery skills; 3) fluency in English and
another language. At least one year of this specialized experience must
be equivalent to the next lower grade in the Federal Service. All
experience requirements must be met by March 28, 2000.

Desired Qualifications:  The following qualifications are not mandatory
for selection for this position. However, highly qualified applicants
will have most of the following: 1) significant experience developing,
designing, and delivering innovative training programs for diverse
audiences; 2) experience in the areas of curriculum design and materials
development; 3) experience promoting an understanding of diversity
issues in a multi-cultural setting; 4) proficiency in the use of
computers and experience in applying technological innovations to the
development and distribution of training materials (e.g. use of CD-ROM,
intranet, internet, distance learning techniques, etc.); 5)
administrative experience, including developing budgets, overseeing
logistics and managing contractors; and 7) Master's degree in applied
linguistics, intercultural communications or a related field. To receive
