The Center for Khmer Studies, the American Overseas Research Center in
Cambodia, is based in Siem Reap, with a branch office in Phnom Penh.
CKS promotes research and scholarly exchange in the social sciences,
arts and humanities between international and Cambodian scholars
through a variety of programs focused on Cambodia and its region. CKS
is currently seeking an experienced and motivated
Director
Major Responsibilities: Academic leadership, administration.
CKS seeks a strong leader who can plan, implement and evaluate its
long-range mission, in collaboration with its Board. Responsibilities
include program development and oversight, hiring and supervising
staff, developing/ monitoring the annual budget, developing an active
program of conferences and workshops, oversight of
translation/publications program, networking with Khmer scholars and
institutions, and solicitation and administration of grants. In
addition to grants, fundraising includes outreach efforts, engaging
and motivating current and potential donors. The Director reports to
the President and is an ex officio member of the Board. He/she
represents CKS in Cambodia.
Desired Qualifications:
Ph.D. in relevant field
Fluent written and spoken English
Competency in Khmer desirable
Experience in administration of academic programs and conferences
Demonstrated ability to draft and monitor budget
Familiarity with education in Cambodia and Southeast Asia
Strong leadership initiative, flexibility and interpersonal skills
Ability to work with an independent, international Board
Experience in fundraising, grant writing and reporting
