Call for Editors | September 2026 to August 2029

The Language Learning & Technology (LLT) Executive Board invites
applications for the editorship of the journal.

LLT is a free, fully-refereed, open access journal that disseminates
research to foreign and second language educators on issues related to
technology and language education. The focus of LLT is not technology per
se, but rather how technology mediates and impacts language teaching and
language learning processes and outcomes. The journal publishes original
research articles, research syntheses, and technology in practice articles.
LLT has been published continuously since July 1997, making it one of the
oldest and highest quality peer-reviewed diamond open access journals in
the United States.

The LLT editors are responsible for all editorial functions and decisions
of the journal consonant with LLT policies, including accepting and
rejecting manuscripts based on their quality and appropriateness for the
journal’s purposes, presiding over the peer-review process, overseeing the
disposition and any revisions of manuscripts, determining Special Issue
topics and recruiting and supervising any guest editors.

The National Foreign Language Resource Center at the University of Hawai’i
at Mānoa serves as the publisher and provides a half-time managing editor
of the journal, access to the scholarly review platform and reviewer
databases, and all other support for copy editing, indexing, and online
publishing, but no salary or stipends for the editors.

We are seeking applications to serve a three-year term, beginning September
1, 2026. We especially invite applications on behalf of teams including one
or more Editors or Co-editors. Proposals are also welcome to include
designated Associate Editors or working with any existing Associate Editors
who wish to continue serving.

Application packets should include the following:

   1.

A list of proposed personnel, including editor(s), co-editor(s), and
associate editor(s), with their titles, workplaces, and, for editors and
   co-editors, a one-paragraph biographical statement.

   2.

A vision statement that outlines the directions that you would like to
pursue as editors, including any of the following:
   1.

topics and content you wish to prioritize
      2.

perspectives on peer review and open access publishing
      3.

ideas for special issues and new columns or features
      4.

suggestions related to scheduling and format of articles and issues
      5.

thoughts about the relationship of AI to writing, reviewing, and
      publishing
      6.

      any proposed innovations
      7.

duties and responsibilities of each member of the editorial team

      3.

A statement describing how the background and experiences of the
proposed editors position the team to accomplish the above and to
successfully lead the journal, including any prior involvement the editors
have had with LLT or other journals.

If there are multiple proposed editors, designate one to serve as the
primary email contact.

“LLT-Editor-Application-Yourlastname-Yourfirstname” and email it to
NFLRC at hawaii.edu with the subject line “LLT Editor Application.”
