budet-li ?

Dear friends,
  I have noticed that the Russian interrogative particle <li>
is often hyphenated with the preceding verb in pre-1918 orthography.
Having cursorily read through Grot's "Russkoe pravopisanie", I couldn't
establish how standard it used to be.
  Is someone kind enough to give me pointers to a reference book on
this matter?
