Dear Seelangers,

A Spanish-translator colleague on another list posts the following.
Please reply directly to "Tim Nicholson" <tnichols at SARENET.ES>.

My text (in Spanish) quotes from the Spanish translation of a book by
Trifonov (Yuri or Iurii [Valentinovich]. Trifonov), the literal
translation of the title of which (es>en) is "The Glare of the Bonfire"
(or something like that). I have no idea whether the book has been
translated into English and whether the Spanish title is a literal
translation of the Russian. And so begins the detective work.

My contact has a copy of the Spanish translation and thinks she has
located the original title in Russian - Otblesk kostra - which (from a
Babelfish search) appears to mean something similar (Babelfish gives
"Reflection of the bonfire").

Could any kind [person] tell me:

a) Whether the book has been translated into English
b) If not, what the closest literal translation of the title would be
c) What the most commonly accepted rendering/transliteration of the
author's name is? (Yuri, Iurii or Yurii? Are patronyms normally included
in English?).

Many TIAs,
