I concur, Intimacy and Terror is great, especially the "Chronicle of the year 1937
as recorded by the newspaper Izvestiya and collective farmer Ignat Danilovich
Frolov" in part one.

And while not literature per se, Sinyavsky's Soviet Civilization (1990) is amply
illustrated with examples from literature and poetry, and has proved popular at
Knox.
