I’ll transliterate only the crucial words: ‘ona zhila do aresta s odnim
lyubovnikom, kotory skazal ei nechayanno, pod serdtse, dolzhno byt’, ot
istomy ili ot strakha, pro svoe moshennichestvo...

At present our tr. reads as follows:

When she was in prison, her watchman had wept for her and gone to the
authorities to beg them to release her – though before her arrest she had
been living with a lover who had told her inadvertently, heart to heart,
(probably out of exhaustion or fear) about some fraud he’d committed but
then it seemed he’d got scared and had wanted her out of the way, so no one
would witness against him.
