Study abroad question

Dear Seelangers,
One of my students, who has served in the armed forces and is married to a
soldier currently serving in Iraq, has asked me about studying in Russia.
Has anyone heard of a student's military service/history causing problems
with visas or other hassles once in Moscow or St. Petersburg? If anyone has
any experience with this issue, please respond off list to ehaber at syr.edu.
