Watch Brands as Status Symbols in the Soviet Union

I was curious if anyone could point me in the direction of articles about watches as status symbols in the Soviet Union.  Obviously post-Soviet Union they play that role, but I had heard that in the Soviet Union elite Soviet watch brands were only available to party members and I am looking for information on that.  Any and all help much appreciated.
