беспокоиться

Беспокоиться о ком/чем is a more general statement of CONCERN.

Беспокоиться за кого can be said, I believe, about someone close to  
the speaker and with a great empathy. So беспокоюсь за сына is okay,  
but it does not mean a constant worry about the son, but rather  
empathy while there is some trying event, an exam, for example.


I did not understand this statement from Alex: о последней "моде"  
заменять переходные глагольные конструкции непереходными.
In what context or with what verbs does this fashion occur?
