Susan and I have continued this discussion offline, and I believe she's
talked me into thinking that the "bounce" at the end of PROVE is an
artifact of the acceleration (actually, I think it stems from the rapid
deceleration, but I can't really prove that).

I guess that technically we're comparing it with one form of ARRIVE -- one
that doesn't begin with palm orientation in, fallowed by a twist
(supination?) that leaves the dominant palm facing up. Is the non-twist
form more emphatic? If so, back to prosody/discourse/pragmatics/whatnot
:-)
