TISLR 8

Dear Listers,
First of all, I'd like to thank all those who responded to my prospective
query on the possibility of having TISLR 8 organized in Barcelona next year.
As I told you in my previous message, it would not be wise to have it while
the Forum of Cultures 2004 is going on, and especially during the summer
peak. The city is normally packed with tourists, but the celebration of the
Forum will certainly make it worse. In addition, some of the people who
might collaborate in the organization would be away. I understand the
reasons why some of the colleagues from the USA might prefer to go for dates
in the summer, but it would complicate things for everyone, I'm afraid.
Going to conferences during teaching periods is always a problem, but we all
find ways to solve it, don't we?
So here we come with a more concrete proposal: would anyone object to having
TISLR 8 in Barcelona on September 30th-October 2nd 2004? If there is no
major objection (like a conflict with another important conference, someone
else wanting to organize it, etc.), we would be happy to go for it, provided
we find the financial means to pay for the expenses.
Your reactions are certainly needed! And also collaboration from previous
organizers who might be willing to pass on their expertise and advice.
Josep
PS. For those of you who think of combining it with a short holiday, the end
of the summer is actually an ideal time (not too hot but warm enough, less
tourists, etc.). Of course, we cannot guarantee that, though!
