recommended books/readings?

Hello all,

What would you choose to include in a list of "core
readings" in sign language linguistics? For example:
seminal works, oft-used references, publications that
have influenced your perspective on sign linguistics,
books/authors in related fields such as cognitive
science, general linguistics, etc. I'm curious about
the ideas that current scholars consider central to
their work or to the field.

I welcome comments from anyone who wishes to
contribute. If you think it may be helpful, please
identify where in the world you are, what sign
language(s) you study, or what school(s) of
linguistics (e.g., generative, cognitive, etc.) you
prefer.

Thanks,
Marisa Bennett, prospective ASL linguistics grad student
