I believe (based on my own experience administering other lists) that this
is something that the list owner needs to do, to configure the list so that
it sends out messages with the list itself as the return address rather than
the original sender. This used to be the way things worked before the crash
and the need to rebuild the list. That way, when people reply to the
message, their reply automatically goes back to the list, which facilitates
continued discussion of topics.
Unfortunately, there is a side-effect of having the messages come from the
list: when someone sets a "vacation" message, as happened recently, the
vacation message goes back to the list and gets posted, generating a new
message from the list, which triggers a new vacation message, etc. The
alternative: block such individuals from posting to the list.
