WORKSHOP “SIGN LANGUAGE AND E-LEARNING”, ISLANDS CENTRE, PRESTON UK
The International Centre for Sign Languages and Deaf Studies is hosting
a workshop on “Sign language and e-learning” on September 12-13,
2008. The workshop will be held at the University of Central Lancashire,
Preston, UK and aims at discussing the use of e-learning and distance
education through sign language in an international context. Examples of
issues covered in the workshop include:
- Fragmentation of deaf communities in industrialised countries: How
can we form e-communities of learners using the sign language medium?
- Shortage of sign language using teachers in developing countries: How
can sign language users be empowered to become peer educators?
- Demands for individualised flexible learning combining class contact
and self-study: What combination of face-to-face contact and distance
learning is workable for sign language users?
We will look at these questions using evidence from India, Turkey,
Brazil, Japan, and European countries.
WE WILL USE A COLLABORATIVE WORKSHOP FORMAT, SO THIS IS NOT A CALL FOR
PAPERS.
