Sign language 'fieldwork'

Hi, Everyone,
It seems that "field work" is simply going to the people where they are as opposed to having people come to where you are, such as your research lab on a university campus.
It wouldn't matter, then, if you're in the city of Winnipeg or Amsterdam or New York, or whether you're in the highlands of Papua New Guinea or Ban Khor, Thailand. If you're going to them, it would be field work. If they're coming to you, it wouldn't be field work.
That's the way that it makes sense in my own mind.
